Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma directed the university to submit a report on the matter while hearing a plea from four students challenging their suspension and campus ban by the university proctor.

The students' legal counsel argued that the protest was peaceful in nature.

The university's representatives, Advocates Amit Sahni and Kisley Mishra, countered that students had not obtained necessary permissions for the protest and had caused property damage. They also noted that students were sleeping outside the canteen, which was against rules.

The controversy began in February when some protesting students were allegedly detained by Delhi Police. This led to further protests as some students were reportedly unaccounted for several hours.

The detained students were eventually released after approximately 12 hours.
