Delhi's fake hospital: How a medical racket ran unnoticed

The Delhi Medical Council nullified Dr. Neeraj Agarwal's registration at Agarwal Medical Centre thrice due to complaints of medical negligence, culminating in his recent arrest by the police

Dr. Arun Gupta, President of DMC, confirmed six complaints against the medical center for alleged surgical negligence, resulting in penalties in four instances. Complaint-triggered investigations summoned hospital administrations and doctors for scrutiny.

Agarwal faced stringent penalties, including a 90-day removal from the State Medical Register following a patient's death due to alleged negligence. Another case led to his deregistration for 30 days related to a medical certificate issuance.

Ongoing investigations aim to establish a money trail, involving the retrieval of numerous financial documents such as cheque books, ATM cards, passbooks, and credit card machines.

Agarwal contested DMC's decisions before the Indian Medical Council, while police arrested him, his wife, a lab technician, and a surgeon, suspecting a financial swindle of approximately Rs 80 crore from patients via reduced-price surgeries.

Allegations surfaced concerning unqualified individuals in surgeries, with one doctor accused of performing surgeries without proper qualifications and fabricating surgery notes.

Repeated complaints against Agarwal, his wife, and the hospital span several years, citing patient deaths due to medical negligence, sparking community outrage and skepticism over official explanations.
