NEW DELHI: Fugitive gangster Anmol Bishnoi, wanted in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, landed at Delhi’s IGI Airport on Wednesday after being deported from the US.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested the brother and close aide of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi upon his deportation to India. The federal agency has sought 15-day custody of Anmol after producing him before special judge Prashant Sharma.
Absconding since 2022, US-based Anmol Bishnoi is the 19th accused to be arrested for his involvement in the terror-syndicate led by his jailed brother, Lawrence Bishnoi.
Anmol was chargesheeted by the NIA in March 2023 after investigations established that he had actively aided designated individual terrorist Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in committing various acts of terrorism in India during the 2020–2023 period.
Anmol’s deportation was coordinated by the NIA. Bishnoi will be taken to Patiala court.
Sources said he may have arrived on a special chartered flight carrying around 200 “illegal” immigrants being removed from the US, and that two other wanted fugitives from Punjab could also be on the same aircraft.
Confirming Anmol’s removal from US soil, Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of the late Baba Siddiqui, told TOI he received an official notification from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through email. The email — sent via DHS-VINE, a confidential victim-notification system — stated that Anmol Bishnoi “has been removed from the United States by the federal government” on November 18, 2025.
Zeeshan had reached out to US authorities earlier as there had been no communication to Mumbai Police regarding Anmol’s status or whereabouts. DHS then confirmed the deportation through the automated system.
Anmol was arrested in Sacramento last November for illegal entry. The FBI later confirmed his identity through DNA and voice sample matches. He had been lodged at the Pottawattamie County jail in Iowa, where he sought asylum while being investigated by ICE for cross-border crime and undocumented immigration.
Anmol gained renewed attention after the firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in April last year. A Facebook account purportedly linked to him claimed responsibility for the attack. Investigators later found an audio recording of an alleged conversation between Anmol and shooter Vicky Gupta, strengthening suspicions of his involvement.
