NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man involved in a rape case in Badli was arrested by Delhi Crime Branch team after a 1,500 km chase in Gujarat. The accused had been absconding since the case was registered, Delhi police said on Thursday.
The authorities had initiated proclamation proceedings against the suspect. Following an extensive chase covering 1500 km, the NR-I Crime Branch successfully captured the accused in Surat, Gujarat.
"The complainant, an employee in Bagwan Pura, had been befriended by the accused while working together. Under the pretext of trust, he administered an intoxicating substance and committed sexual assault while capturing explicit photos and videos. He used these recordings to blackmail the victim, coercing her into further physical relations. The victim courageously reported the matter, leading to the registration of the case at PS SP Badli," Delhi police said.
According to Delhi police, intelligence received on December 16 indicated the suspect was concealing himself in Jai Ambey Nagar, Surat, Gujarat.
The team promptly executed a raid, successfully detaining the accused.
The suspect, identified as Kuldeep, originates from District Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, and has studied until the 8th standard. Delhi police reported that he has been a resident of Bawana, Delhi, for approximately 5-6 years, working as a welder in a local factory.
The police additionally revealed that a mobile phone containing explicit content was employed for blackmail and sextortion purposes.
