Kejriwal slams ‘code violation’ by BJP’s Verma

NEW DELHI: AAP accused BJP's New Delhi candidate, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, of "openly violating" the model code of conduct and distributing "bedsheets, glasses and cash" to "buy votes". It alleged that Election Commission was a silent spectator.

Verma called the allegation "completely baseless and false".

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal posted on X, "Just yesterday (Thursday), we filed a complaint with Election Commission about blatant distribution of cash, job registrations and glasses. And now, they've started distributing bedsheets in broad daylight. Will Election Commission dare to act, or is it helpless before BJP?"

Chief minister Atishi also accused Verma of violating the model code of conduct. "He distributed spectacles and cash brazenly. Parvesh Verma knows he has nothing else to offer—no work, vision or narrative for Delhi. That's why he is trying to garner votes by violating MCC," Atishi alleged.

Verma said Kejriwal's allegations were a desperate attempt to mislead the public. "BJP always followed the rules and conducts its campaigns with integrity. This is yet another example of AAP resorting to false claims when they fear losing the trust of the people," he claimed.

Atishi also alleged that between Dec 15 and Jan 8, approximately 13,000 voter addition applications were received, and 5,500 voter deletion applications were filed, claiming that there was a "large-scale fraud".

Verma presented data to counter the claims, adding, "Kejriwal is scared. The fear of losing gripped him. That's why he is now using the voter list issue as an excuse. Soon, he will start blaming EVMs for his defeat."
