LG reviews NDMC’s key initiatives
New Delhi: Lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday reviewed key initiatives of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), with a focus on advanced waste management systems, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in high-footfall hubs such as Connaught Place and Khan Market, and the rationalisation of power tariff for residents.
Sources said the discussion around pedestrianising CP and Khan Market included framing a plan around walkability as well as adequate parking space to ensure the footfall in the markets does not fall.
As the urban local body entrusted with managing the core of the capital, NDMC carries the responsibility of delivering services that are efficient, citizen-centric and replicable as models of global standards and best practices, LG posted on X.
The exploration of advanced technologies and global best practices for efficient waste management was also discussed.
In addition, measures to rationalise power tariff for people residing in the NDMC areas were examined to reduce their financial burden. Since the NDMC area does not fall under the purview of power discoms, those living in these areas do not get any subsidy benefit.
LG stressed that sustained priority must be given to effective garbage management, timely road repairs, dust mitigation and swift resolution of issues flagged by citizens and the media.
He further advised NDMC to remain open and responsive to feedback and bridge the gap between on-ground realities and service delivery expectations — an essential prerequisite for achieving citizen-centric governance.
