Murder convict arrested after jumping bail for five years
New Delhi: Five years after jumping bail, a murder convict has been arrested by the crime branch of Delhi Police.Robin Tamang (45) was convicted of allegedly stabbing an associate to death in Burari in 2013 over a dispute involving a mobile SIM card and a woman. Police said he had reached the house of a female acquaintance and called her friend, one Neeraj, outside. The two then reportedly got into a quarrel, which escalated into a heated altercation. Tamang had allegedly stabbed Neeraj three to four times in the chest and fled.
After being convicted, he was lodged in the Mandoli jail before being released on a three-week furlough on Sept 3, 2020. The furlough had been extended to March 15, 2021, after which he had allegedly failed to surrender and been absconding.According to police, Tamang initially fled to his native village in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district to evade arrest. He then moved across several states and concealed his identity to avoid detection. Over the next five years, he kept a low profile, working at roadside eateries in Nagaland and Meghalaya before returning to the NCR, where he took up jobs at food stalls in Faridabad and Gurugram.Police said he had recently come back to Delhi in search of work. "Upon his recent return to Delhi, he was tracked through specific human intelligence along with sustained technical and ground surveillance," said DCP (crime) Aditya Gautam. The accused was traced to and nabbed from the Anand Vihar Railway Station on Sunday.
