NDMC areas not receiving enough water supply: Chahal

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council's vice-chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Monday claimed that NDMC areas were not receiving adequate water supply from Delhi Jal Board despite several requests, which was causing hindrances in ensuring 24x7 water supply.

"NDMC areas require 225 million litres per day, but under Arvind Kejriwal's administration, DJB is providing only 125 MLD of water. While this situation is manageable during winter, we face serious problems in ensuring adequate water supply during summer," said Chahal.

Chahal added that there were 21,921 water consumers in NDMC areas, including 18,783 domestic and 3,031 commercial.

Chahal further stated that "under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jal Jeevan Mission, NDMC is working on the first phase of the 24x7 water supply initiative. This project includes the installation of motor pump sets, laying of water pipelines, and repairing of grid lines to ensure uninterrupted water distribution."

The council's vice-chairperson added that under the ‘Har Ghar Jal' initiative, NDMC has planned to provide individual piped water connections to 9,386 families in 32 slum clusters, benefiting 46,930 residents. To tackle the water scarcity during summer, the council has proposed the construction of two new underground water storage units.

Chahal further claimed that despite being the MLA of New Delhi, Kejriwal had not yet taken an oath as a member of NDMC. "He has failed to understand the issues of his constituency or engage with the citizens of New Delhi...Many projects remain incomplete due to the failed functioning of Delhi govt."
