NEW DELHI: The son of a tailor who qualified NEET, a student who worked at a chemist shop and as a compounder waiting to join a medical college, and another who got admission at IIT Bombay with 51 rank in JEE Advanced, were among over 2000 who shared their journey with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.

During their felicitation, several qualifiers thanked Delhi government for providing free tablets and coaching to crack the competitive examinations. They were given a certificate and a mug with the CM's photo engraved.

Md Jibrail Alam, a student of Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Paschim Vihar, said "My father is a tailor and he has really worked hard. Not only me even my elder brother is studying medicine. Now, his sons will be doctors. With the help of my teachers and principal, I could crack the exam". Alam is confident to get admission at Maulana Azad Medical College with a category rank of 91.

Another student from the same school, Piyush Jha scored 706 out of 720 in NEET. "I belong to a lower-middle-class background and couldn't afford a tablet. The tablets provided by the Delhi government helped me attend online classes, significantly aiding my preparation. Many students from my school have qualified for medical and other prestigious exams, serving as a great source of inspiration," said Jha.

Student of a government school in Saket, Durgesh Sharma (20) shared how his journey was not easy. A residentof Sangam Vihar, Sharma said, "I am still working in a chemist shop and also worked as a compounder. It was my dream to become a doctor. Even though I took a gap year, I was in constant touch with my school teachers". With his rank, he is likely to get into dental course.

"If there is no bond in the medical college, then I will appear for the exam again next year," said Sharma, whose mother works as a tailor and father is a carpenter.

Like Piyush Jha, one of the high scorers was Gaurav Kumar, who secured a CSE seat at IIT Bombay with 51st rank in JEE Advanced. "Consistent and serious preparation can lead to a good rank even without coaching. I entirely did self study and sought help from teachers," said Kumar.

NEET qualifier Divyanshi Sharma of Lajpat Nagar government School, said it was possible because of free coaching provided. She is also a cricket player representing Delhi at the Under-19 level.
