No work in 10 years, AAP only betrayed people: Shah

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on AAP at a public meeting in Rajouri Garden on Saturday, calling party convener Arvind Kejriwal "Shriman Bhrashtachar" (Mr Corruption). Shah accused former chief minister of deceiving the people of Delhi in the past 10 years and ruining the city.Calling the party AAPda, the BJP senior functionary said it hadn't done any work in the past 10 years, but only made promises, lied and betrayed the public."They have given broken roads in the name of connectivity, committed fraud in medical tests under the guise of mohalla clinics, and turned Delhi's roads into lakes during the rain," said Shah, adding that they opened liquor stores near schools, temples and gurdwaras. They committed corruption involving thousands of crores, but Modiji acted strictly and sent him and its ministers to jail, he added.Accusing AAP of misleading the public by claiming that BJP would discontinue all existing welfare schemes if elected in Delhi, Shah said this was just a rumour and BJP won't discontinue any scheme for the poor. "Modi himself has said that no welfare scheme for the poor will be stopped," he added. On AAP's earlier promise of cleaning the Yamuna, the minister said AAP functionaries had promised that after five years, they would take a dip in the Yamuna. Asking the public if the Yamuna has been cleaned or if they find proper facilities during Chhath Puja, Shah said, "They didn't do it; they didn't even take a dip. Today, BJP workers made his effigy take a dip in the Yamuna, and even the effigy fell ill." The Union minister promised that, like the Sabarmati riverfront, BJP will complete the Yamuna riverfront work in five years.Shah continued that AAP promised that it would make Delhi pollution-free, but even today, elderly people's lungs get choked with pollution during winter.Commenting on AAP govt's mohalla clinics, Shah said, "If you need surgery, where will you go? If you need more MRIs, where will you go? However, Modiji has provided treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for the poor across the country." Shah added that the promise of a garbage-free Delhi had also not been fulfilled.Attacking Kejriwal, Shah said he promised to make Delhi corruption-free, but even social activist Anna Hazare was ashamed that one of his followers turned out to be involved in corruption worth thousands of crores. He added that both the education minister and chief minister of Delhi went to jail for the alleged liquor scam. "There was a Rs 28,000-crore scam in the jal board, Rs 5,400-crore scam in ration distribution, Rs 45-crore scam in DTC buses, Rs 1,300-crore smart classroom scam, Rs 571-crore scam in CCTV, and a Rs 52-crore bungalow was made," alleged Shah. He claimed that it was done with the public's money, which was supposed to build hospitals, schools, and was to be used for waste management and cleaning the Yamuna.Seeking votes for BJP candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa at Rajouri Garden assembly seat, Shah asked people to vote for a double-engine govt to make Delhi the best capital in the world.
