Arvind Kejriwal's resignation: People demanding answers, says BJP; AAP strikes back

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Monday claimed that CM Arvind Kejriwal's decision to resign was not motivated by ethical considerations, but rather due to the lack of development work under his leadership. Sachdeva further said that the public had begun to demand answers from CM.

Sachdeva alleged that Delhi govt had pushed millions of families into addiction with its liquor policy and challenged Kejriwal to face the women of the city.

He claimed that since independence, Delhi had become the first state where 43 deaths had occurred due to waterlogging. He said: "If Kejriwal goes to the people, they will reject him due to corruption scandals. All MLAs of his party have been missing from their constituencies for the last five years, indulging only in corruption. On what basis will they go to the people?"

AAP didn't respond to the allegations.

BJP MP from South Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, claimed that Kejriwal was again trying to confuse people. "He is saying that till the verdict of the people comes, he will not sit on CM's chair. He had to resign due to the conditions imposed by Supreme Court. The court will give a verdict on the allegations of corruption against him, not the people. He is unsuccessfully trying to pay the sympathy card."

He claimed that people had already given their verdict on Kejriwal when he made the Lok Sabha election a referendum on his arrest. "The people of Delhi declared their verdict in June when AAP-Congress coalition lost all seven seats with huge margins," he said.

Hitting back, AAP said Delhi BJP president did nothing but hold press conferences and spread false propaganda against AAP. "He should be ashamed. Even Supreme Court has remarked that under BJP's central govt, CBI functions like a caged parrot," the party said. "SC categorically noted that it appeared that CBI arrested Arvind Kejriwal only to prevent his release from jail after he got bail in ED case. Under home minister's watch, investigative agencies have been weaponised with malice against Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders," it said.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav, meanwhile, said Kejriwal's statement that he would occupy CM's chair only after he goes through an "agnipariksha" to prove his innocence before the people was a clear admission of guilt. "He has committed corruption in the now scrapped liquor policy, as he had spearheaded the entire deal," he alleged.
