Prayers at temples, gaushalas for longest serving PM
New Delhi: BJP functionaries, including party national president Nitin Nabin, Union minister J P Nadda and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, offered prayers at temples to mark Narendra Modi’s record as the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India.
Modi on Wednesday completed an unbroken tenure of 4,399 days in office, surpassing the record of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who held the office for 4,398 days.
Nabin, accompanied by Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra, prayed at Jhandewala temple for Modi’s long life and continued leadership, according to a party statement. Nabin said this achievement reflected not only Modi’s popularity in India but also his stature as one of the world’s most admired leaders.
CM offered prayers at a temple in Pinjrapole Gaushala in north Delhi and participated in the recital of Sundarkand at the Ram temple in Kishanganj Gaushala. Modi continues to serve the country without taking a single day's break, Gupta said.
Lieutenant governor TS Sandhu said, “In many respects, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution has been to align governance with the aspirations of a rapidly changing India.”
Observing that over the past decade, India has witnessed governance initiatives on a scale rarely seen anywhere in the world, he said, "Millions of citizens who had previously remained outside the formal banking system were brought into the financial mainstream.” Sandhu added, “Across sectors and regions, there is a growing belief that India can think bigger, move faster and aspire higher.”
Minister Parvesh Verma called it India’s good fortune to be guided by PM Modi. “Under him, the nation has witnessed a new era of development, good governance, national pride and global recognition.” Becoming the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister is "a reflection of the unwavering trust and affection that 140 crore Indians have placed in his leadership”, he emphasised.
