Rain continues in parts of Delhi, mercury to dip further
NEW DELHI: Sudden change in meteorological conditions led to light rain in Daily on Wednesday. Moderate or intense rain is likely on Thursday.
Safdarjung, the city’s base station, recorded 2.8 mm rainfall between 11.30 am and 5.30 pm, while Palam received 5.9 mm, Ridge 2.6mm, Ayanagar 2 mm, Delhi University 2 mm, Mungeshpur 10mm, Sports Complex (Akshardham) 5.5mm and Mayur Vihar 6.5 mm. Jafarpur, Najafgarh and Pusa recorded 0.5mm rainfall each.
Weather analysts stated that scattered rain is likely till September 26. “The low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh is likely to recurve towards Uttar Pradesh and hence, a trough has developed over Delhi, which has changed the westerly winds to easterly, leading to rain in the region. The condition will persist for a few days and scattered rain is likely in Delhi and nearby regions till September 26. Under this, the city will see light to moderate rain. Heavy showers may take place in isolated areas,” said Mahesh Palawat, vice-chairman, meteorology and climate change, Skymet.
According to India Meteorological Department, Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The minimum temperature was 25.1 degrees C. The humidity levels oscillated between 98% and 69%. The weather department expects the maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday to hover around 31 degrees C and 23 degrees C, respectively.
Meanwhile, the city’s air quality remained ‘moderate’. It was, however, ‘very poor’ at Anand Vihar. The air quality index, on a scale of 0 to 500, was 136 on Wednesday compared with 130 a day earlier. According to Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the air quality in Delhi is likely to improve and remain in the satisfactory category till September 24.
