Major floods in Delhi occurred in 1924, 1977, 1978, 1995, 2010, and 2013. Analysis of flood data from 1963 to 2010 indicate an increasing trend for floods occurring in September, and a decreasing trend in July, according to research. Bhim Singh Rawat, associate coordinator, South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers, People (SANDRP), attributed the unprecedented rise in the Yamuna water level in Delhi to riverbed elevation due to significant silt accumulation.
Water level increased rapidly in past 3 days
Delhi recorded a rapid increase in the Yamuna water level over the last three days. It shot up from 203.14 metres at 11 am on Sunday to 205.4 at 5 pm on Monday, breaching the danger mark of 205.33 metres 18 hours earlier than expected. The river had exceeded the evacuation mark of 206 metres on Monday night, prompting the relocation of people residing in flood-prone areas to safer locations and a closure of the Old Railway Bridge for road and rail traffic.

‘Avoid unnecessary journeys’: Uttarakhand CM Dhami in view of incessant rainfall in state
- Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday requested the people of the state and the pilgrims to avoid unnecessary journeys in view of continuous rainfall in the state.
- “In view of continuous rains in all areas of the state, I request all the people of the state and pilgrims to avoid making unnecessary journeys. I’m overseeing the condition of roadways and rain from all the districts 24 hours a day from the State Disaster Control Room. The district administration and SDRF have been instructed to remain on high alert in all the districts”, CM Dhami shared in a tweet.
The meeting of Central Zone Council (on July 15) that was scheduled to be held here, under the chairmanship of HM Amit Shah has been cancelled for now, in wake of the weather situation.
3 drown as car falls into river in Uttarakhand's Pauri
- Three people died when their car fell into the swollen Khoh river at Kotdwar in Uttarakhand's Pauri district, police said on Wednesday.
- A police official said the vehicle was headed for Kotdwar from Dugadda with five occupants on Tuesday night when the incident took place.

Breaches in Ghaggar inundate fields in Punjab’s Sangrur
- Three major breaches in Ghaggar, which has been flowing above the danger mark, on Wednesday caused flooding in agricultural fields in Punjab's Sangrur districts.
- The breaches took place at Makorad Sahib, Phulad and Mandvi villages.Paddy crops on thousands of acres were submerged in water within hours of the river breaching its banks. The floodwater has not entered residential areas so far.

- Himachal Pradesh minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the flash floods have damaged the national highway and disrupted water and electricity supply. "Manali has suffered significant damage due to flash floods. Houses, land, and gardens have been destroyed, and the national highway is damaged due to flash floods. - “We received info from the Russian Embassy that 15 Russian tourists are stranded in Kasol. We are trying to establish contact and once we will be able to contact the tourists we will inform the Embassy about their well-being,” said acting DGP, Satwant Atwal Trivedi.
