Sanjay Kapur property feud: Instead of mourning, Priya sought control of Rs 30,000 crore assets, industrialist’s mother makes stunning claim in Delhi HC

NEW DELHI: Late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's mother on Monday told the Delhi high court that instead of mourning his death, his wife Priya Kapur made every move to take control of his assets worth Rs 30,000 crore.

The case involves a legal challenge by Sunjay's children from his marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor.


Rani Kapur expressed concern through her lawyer that she was never informed about her son's will, which notably omits any mention of her existence despite Sunjay acknowledging that he received everything from her.

Senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing Rani, informed the court that marital problems between Sunjay and Priya began in May 2023, leading to frequent conflicts.

"It was highly unlikely and improbable that Sunjay would make Priya the sole beneficiary of his personal estate," the plea stated, adding that the deceased "shared a deep bond and equal affection with all his children, his mother and other members of the Kapur family."

Gaggar alleged that Priya concealed significant assets belonging to Sunjay in the list submitted to the court, including paintings and bank balances, while prioritizing asset control over grieving.

The court is also considering an interim injunction application from Karisma Kapoor's children, seeking to prevent Priya Kapur from alienating them from their father's assets.

Justice Jyoti Singh scheduled the next hearing for December 3 to continue arguments in the case.

Rani's lawyer argued that at minimum, Sunjay would have explicitly stated in the will if he intended to exclude his mother from his inheritance.

The case highlights the complex family dynamics surrounding the substantial estate of the late industrialist, with multiple parties seeking to protect their interests in the assets.
