Students take SOL exam in tents at S Delhi college
New Delhi: The exam centre at a Delhi University college in South Campus wears the look of a wedding venue these days with students’ chairs and tables placed facing each other in makeshift tents. A cluster of tents, divided into three centres, has been set up for students of School of Open Learning to write their exams.Nearly 25,000 students were admitted this year to SOL, making a total of over 3.5 lakh students. Due to the small size of the SOL campus, accommodating the additional students proved challenging.Payal Mago, director, Campus of Open Learning, told TOI that the makeshift facilities, including tents and blowers, would remain in place until January 18 for the remaining exams. “Plans for commercial heaters are also in place. Students are provided with tea and water to combat the cold weather,” the director said. However, some students complained of inconvenience. A BCom student said, “On December 21, I took my first exam in a tent, but it was too cold there.”Demanding better facilities, Krantikari Yuva Sangathan stated that it would hold a protest outside the VC’s office on Thursday.Ajay Arora, dean of examination, refused to comment on the matter.
