NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor
Anil Baijal on Sunday reviewed the
desilting
work on east Delhi’s Babarpur drain along with senior officials and instructed
civic agencies
to adopt novel
technology
to clear all drains of temporary floating materials before the onset of monsoon to avoid waterlogging.
Baijal has put up a deadline of August 30 for removal of all silt from this drain. Other top officials present during the review included principal scientific advisor Vijay Raghavan, EDMC commissioner Dilraj Kaur and Delhi Jal Board CEO Nikhil Kumar.
Raghavan said that the floating material in the drain network is a major problem and using latest technology is crucial to find a lasting solution.
A senior East Delhi Municipal Corporation official said that an enhancer machine with booms has been installed in the 52 cusec drain to remove floating material from it. The technology has been developed by a company in Denmark.
Civic agencies will now explore techniques like installing floating wire mesh systems to capture the floating material in the drains and then turn in into energy using pyrolysis technology.
