NEW DELHI: The polling booth in Katewara village in northwest Delhi wore a deserted look, with its residents deciding to boycott the civic election over alleged neglect by the Delhi government and the municipal corporation.
Not a single voter stepped out to elect a councillor for Nangal Thakran ward under Bawana assembly constituency. With a population of over 6,000, the village has close to 3,500 voters.

We have been regularly writing to the Delhi government, MCD and area MP, MLA and councillor, but to no avail,” said Manish Vats, who runs a textile factory in Bawana Industrial Area. “It seems we are not even part of Delhi. Roads are broken, cleanliness missing, the community centre is in bad shape,” he added.
Rohit Kaushik, who works for a private firm, said all four entry gates to the village were broken and several people had been injured due to chunks of cement falling off it. “The roads are in a pathetic state and there have been so many accidents. Whom do we vote for and why,” Kaushik said. “Even the workers of all parties living in our village supported our decision,” Kaushik added.
