'Wonderful event that brings us all together': Delhi CM on 3rd International Kite Festival
NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Friday described the 3rd International Kite Festival as a wonderful event, saying it brings people together and reflects Delhi's vibrant festival culture.
Speaking to the reporters, Gupta said, "Delhi is the capital of festivals, and today, thousands of people will gather in this Bansera park for the kite festival and enjoy the celebrations. I am very grateful to the Lieutenant Governor, who initiated this kite festival three years ago. Since then, thousands of people from Delhi have participated in it. It's a wonderful event that brings us all together."
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that future editions of the International Kite Festival will be grander, attract visitors from across the country, gain global recognition, and create employment opportunities.
"...I assure you that the next Kite Festival will be very grand. People will come here from every corner of the country... Such a foundation will be laid that Delhi's Kite Festival will be known all over the world... The Kite Festival will also become a major means of providing employment to people... In the coming times, more such programs will be organised," Saxena said.
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 3rd International Kite Festival, urging the Delhi government and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to form a committee to make the city the national hub for kite festivities, expand the event, and encourage public participation for a grand nationwide celebration.
Addressing the 3rd International Kite Festival- 2026 in Delhi, Shah said, "The kite festival will connect people across the entire country, and in the future, it can become a national festival. I urge the Delhi administration and the DDA to form a committee to make Delhi the centre of the kite festival for the whole country, and to work to expand it and ensure public participation to make it a truly grand celebration."
Shah also referenced the richness of India's festival culture, quoting poet Kalidasa, "Utsav-priya janah," meaning the people of India are fond of festivals.
He said that throughout the year, people across the country celebrate festivals, which bring society together and foster a collective vision, adding that Uttarayan is an integral part of this tradition.
