Woman accuses Ghaziabad BJP functionary of rape bid

GHAZIABAD: A woman has accused a functionary of the BJP of trying to rape her on Wednesday after spiking her drink. The woman, who is in her 20s, told the Ghaziabad police that she works in the office of the accused Madan Rai, the mandal adhyaksh of the party.

On Wednesday, Rai invited the woman to his house in Sahibabad where he offered her a drink. “According to the complainant, the drink was laced with sedatives. When she started feeling dizzy after consuming it, the accused tried to force himself on her but she somehow managed to escape and reported the crime to the police,” said Abhijit R Shankar, the circle officer of Sahibabad.

Based on the complaint, Rai has been booked under IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 376 (punishment for rape).

“We are verifying the allegations. Arrest will be made after investigation,” added the police officer.
