GHAZIABAD: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly abducting a 4-year-old boy to compel his mother to marry him. Monu Tyagi, the alleged abductor, was picked up from a bus stop on the Delhi-Saharanpur Road and the boy recovered.
Police said Monu, a labourer, had abducted the kid from his school on July 24. The boy is a nursery student of
Baba
Mohan Ram School in Loni. Monu lives in same the neighbourhood as the boy and his mother, Ruchi. The woman had been living separately from her husband, who owns a denim dyeing factory, for the past two years.
“Monu and Ruchi had known each other for the past one year. Ruchi was miffed with her husband because he had a drinking habit. Monu, who has been jailed in the past in a case of loot, was trying to force Ruchi to marry him after abducting her son. He had taken the kid away on a motorcycle,” Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav
Krishna said.
The motorcycle has also been recovered from Monu. Police said Monu had reached the boy’s school on the afternoon of July 24 and taken him along. An FIR pertaining to kidnapping was lodged on July 25 when the boy’s parents lodged a complaint.
“The kid was familiar with Monu and did not suspect any foul play. Monu took the kid to Meerut and began calling Ruchi repeatedly on her mobile phone. He threatened to kill the kid if Ruchi did not marry him. We traced Monu’s location from his mobile number,” said Rojant Tyagi, Loni Border police station SHO.
