Allegations of funds misuse internal party matter: State BJP chief

Panaji: Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said allegations levelled by speaker Ramesh Tawadkar over misuse of funds by art and culture minister Govind Gaude is an “internal matter”.

"I will speak to both of them as it is an internal matter. But such things should not be discussed in public. I will also speak to CM Pramod Sawant," Tanavade said.

Tawadkar, on the first day of the assembly session on Friday, had alleged that Gaude had disbursed special grants to organisations in Canacona for cwithout following proper procedure and called for a probe.

Gaude had dismissed the allegations and had said he was ready to face any inquiry.

Gaude has refuted Tawadkar’s allegations, and said that his department acted transparently.

Reacting to the issue of electronic voting machines (EVMs), Tanavade said that BJP raised the issue in 2009 and “now we are in 2024”. “The issue of EVMs does not stand because when we are winning, the EVM issue comes up, but when they are winning, there is no issue from either their side or mine. How can it be like this?” he said.

Meanwhile, reacting to the issue of alleged cheating by directors and members of cooperative societies, Tanavade said that he would speak to Sawant to bring in some law to handle the matter.

When asked if he would raise the Mhadei issue in the Rajya Sabha, Tanavade said that the chief minister has already taken a stand on the issue and that the matter is sub-judice, and thus he does not want to have a different stand.
