Cricket bets: 3 Guj men held at Pilerne

Panaji: In a breakthrough, Goa police have cracked down on a cricket betting ring. Three persons have been arrested by Porvorim police. According to Porvorim PI Rahul Parab, information was received on Thursday from reliable sources that some people were accepting bets at a rented Pilerne bungalow, on a match between India and Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy.

A police team was formed which raided the premises late at night and arrested the three persons.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Maksud Modan, 28, Aasifbhai Jiyaudeenbhai, 25, and Rizvan Bhash, 20. All three are residents of Gujarat, police said.

During the raid, police seized four mobile phones, one laptop, and internet routers, together worth Rs 1.1 lakh. An FIR under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act has been registered.

The raiding team consisted of Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Arun Shirodkar, constables Mahadev Naik, Akash Naik, Nitesh Gawde, and Siddhesh Naik.
