DGP directs police to file FIR in all cybercrime cases above 1 lakh

Panaji: DGP Alok Kumar on Friday directed Goa police to register an FIR in all cybercrime cases that involve more than Rs 1 lakh. Kumar said that with his directions, there will be an increase in the number of FIRs in cybercrime cases.

“We have made it mandatory to register an FIR in all cybercrime cases involving more than Rs 1 lakh,” Kumar told TOI.

Kumar said that he has asked the Goa police officers to analyse the pattern of cybercrime and act accordingly to stop them from cheating innocent citizens of the state.

Kumar said that in most cybercrime cases, the accused are from outside the state and there is a need for teamwork to nab them. “I have directed police officers to increase the number of arrests in cybercrime cases,” Kumar said.

The DGP said the police have moved a proposal to state govt to establish a state cybercrime coordination centre comprising representatives from police, banks and mobile companies and govt has granted approval. “We will establish the centre soon,” he said.

“The idea of the centre is to have all agencies and financial institutions under one roof so that there is a fast exchange of information to stop cyber fraud,” he said.

There was a 65% increase in the registration of cybercrime cases in the state in 2025 as compared to 2024.
