Dogs chase, attack Russian on South Goa's Mobor beach
Panaji/Calangute: Instances of dogs attacking tourists continue to rise, with a 45-year-old Russian man falling prey to a pack of dogs at South Goa’s Mobor beach on Saturday. Less than a month earlier, three senior citizens, including two foreign nationals, were bitten by stray dogs at Mobor and Benaulim.
The Russian man was chased and attacked by three stray dogs at Mobor beach. Drishti Marine lifesavers provided first aid to the injured person and advised him to seek further medical treatment for the bites on his leg.
The first week of 2025 also saw a woman from Taleigao being stung by a stingray off Velsao beach. The 23-year-old woman from Taleigao accidentally stepped on a stingray at the beach and was stung on her right leg. Drishti Marine lifesavers administered first aid, and she was then taken to the nearest health centre for further treatment.
The lifesavers also averted a tragedy at the Dudhsagar waterfalls after a child from Haryana, who was playing in the water while wearing a lifejacket, panicked and called to her father for help. Her 38-year-old father jumped into the water without a lifejacket and began drowning. Drishti Marine lifesaver jumped into the water and rescued the man.
A 38-year-old woman from Belarus and a 40-year-old woman from Russia got caught in a rip current at Calangute and Mandrem, respectively. The two were rescued and brought ashore by lifeguards. At Baga beach, a 39-year-old male from Russia was also caught in a rip current after he stepped into a risk-prone area marked by caution tape. Noticing his distress, lifesavers rushed to assist him with the help of a rescue tube.
In another incident at Baga, a seven-year-old girl from Rajasthan was reunited with her parents after she accidentally separated from them. A lifesaver comforted the missing child and obtained her father’s contact number from her. He then called her father and reunited him with his daughter within 10 minutes.
At Calangute beach, a three-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh was reunited with his family by a lifesaver after he accidentally got separated from them.
