Dramatist Vijaykumar Naik dies at 64

Ponda: Vijaykumar Naik, 64, a dramatist who was known for his out of box concept ‘Vijaykumar’s travelling box theater’, died after a brief illness in Ponda on Thursday.

Naik stepped into dramatics through ‘Hauns Natya Mandal’, the oldest theater organisation founded by his father, Vishwanath. He dabbled into direction at the age of 14 through a one act play, ‘Kaalpravah’ with the support of his family, most of whom were active in threatre.

His carrer in dramatics over three decades and he was popularly known as Viju in Goa’s drama circle. Naik had directed 100 plus dramas and his plays were also staged outside Goa. He is survived by a wife and son.
