Harvalem p’yat records strong voter turnout

Bicholim: The voter turnout for the elections of five wards in the Harvalem panchayat was recorded to be 91 per cent. Demgo Malik has been elected unopposed from ward no. 1.

The highest turnout was recorded in ward 2, while the lowest turnout was seen in ward 3. In wards 2 and 5, over 90 per cent of people cast their votes, and in wards 3 and 4, over 80 per cent people cast their votes.

In ward no. 2, Raju Malik, Shivram Malik, Ajay Malik, and Akshata Malik were in the fray. However, Shivram Malik and Akshata Malik withdrew their candidature later and extended their support to Ajay Malik.

At ward no. 3, Sneha Desai and Priya Harvalkar have raised a challenge in front of Mamta Divkar, who is a former panchayat member.

Sukanya Patil is contesting against Gauravi Naik, who served as sarpanch twiceat ward no. 4 .

At ward no. 5 Asmita Malik, wife of former sarpanch Ankush Malik, is being challenged by Sharmila Malik and Rakhi Sadekar. The counting of votes will be held at the Bicholim mamlatdar office at 8am today..
