PANAJI: The Power Grid Corporation of India, west region, handed over six basic life support ambulances and two advanced life support ambulances to the directorate of health services under corporate social responsibility, on Tuesday.

Health minister Vishwajit Rane said these ambulances will help reduce the response time to reach patients in emergencies and save lives.

Overall the health department requires 25-30 more ambulances, especially neonatal care ambulances and cardiac ambulances to save lives.

The basic life support ambulances will be handed over to the sub district hospital in Chicalim, community health centres in Pernem and Canacona and primary health centres in Siolim, Quepem and Corlim. The advanced life support ambulances, also known as cardiac ambulances, are designed to assist patients suffering from cardiac diseases.
