High Court Dismisses Petition for CBI Investigation into Criminal's Jail Escape in Goa
Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by Tivim resident and criminal Suleman Mohammed Khan, also known as Siddique, seeking a CBI investigation into his escape from jail.
The Old Goa police station is investigating Siddique’s escape from crime branch police custody on Dec 13 last year when he was arrested in a land grab case. Siddique approached the high court seeking that the investigation be transferred to the CBI. But the division bench, comprising Justice Bharati Dangre and Justice Nivedita Mehta, dismissed his petition.
After his escape from police custody in Dec, 54-year-old Siddique was traced in Ernakulam, Kerala, rearrested, and brought back to Goa. He had moved to eight different locations by then. The police also took action against inspectors of the crime branch and the Indian Reserve Police Battalion (IRBn), and two constables in connection with his escape. Earlier, the police had dismissed IRBn constable Amit Naik, who helped Siddique flee, and suspended head constable Sarvesh Kandolkar, who was the guard in charge of crime branch custody at the time of the escape.
