Jury sifts through 384 entries to pick 25 Indian Panorama films

Panaji: The jury members for the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) faced a challenging task in selecting just 25 films from a pool of 384 entries. Speaking on the sidelines of the festival on Thursday, jury members said that non-selection should not necessarily be considered a statement on the quality of the films.

The panel members deliberated for 42 days to decide the best 25 five films in the section.

Manoj Joshi, a jury member, said the jury tried to give justice to the talent, films, and creativity from all the regions in the country. Priya Krishnaswamy, another jury member said, “It was heartening to see how new filmmakers experiment with the art form and the new cinematic language they bring to the fore. Through the meticulous selection of films, the effort of the jury members was trying to showcase upcoming trends in filmmaking and highlight the variety of Indian cinema to the world.”

The 55th Iffi showcases 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films in the Indian Panorama section.

Additionally, the Iffiesta, a vibrant cultural festival, was inaugurated on Thursday, offering a range of attractions for festival-goers.

The 4th edition of Creative Minds of Tomorrow (CMOT) was launched on Thursday. Mahima Kaul, director of public policy at Netflix, said that over 50% of the participants are women. “The top performers from CMOT will contribute to Netflix’s special project Azaadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan, where they will narrate stories related to India’s independence movement,” she said.
