Konkani film ‘Sadabahar’ at Iffi’s Indian Panorama
Panaji: The poignant tale of xenophobia in Goa portrayed in the Konkani film ‘Sadabahar’ directed by Suyash Kamat has made it to the list of 20 non-feature films of the Indian Panorama section of the 54th edition of Iffi in Goa.
This is the second consecutive Konkani film, after ‘Wagro’ in 2022, to be featured in the Indian Panorama section.
Iffi will be held from November 20 to 28.
This year’s panorama will feature a strong selection of movies with 25 feature and 20 non-feature films and will showcase powerful storytelling to breathtaking cinematography. The opening feature film at the film festival will be ‘Aattam’ (Malayalam), directed by Anand Ekarshi while the opening non-feature film will be ‘Andro Dreams’ (Manipuri), directed by Longjam Meena Devi.
“It is a good sign that films by young Goan filmmakers are getting selected for Iffi,” said film critic, Sachin Chatte.
Organised by the National Film Development Corporation under the ministry of information and broadcasting, a panel of twelve jury members for feature films and six for non-feature films, led by their respective chairpersons selected the films.
The feature film jury was led by acclaimed film director, actor and producer, Dr T S Nagabharana. A total of 408 contemporary Indian feature films were available for selection from which the jury zeroed-in on the 25 films. The non-feature film jury was led by renowned documentary film director Arvind Sinha who, in turn, selected the final 20 non-feature films from the available 239 contemporary Indian productions.
Indian Panorama was introduced in 1978 with the aim of promoting Indian films, culture and heritage through the lens of cinematic art and has since remained dedicated to showcasing the very best of Indian cinema at Iffi.
