Marcel man claims woman duped 44 of Rs 3.9cr for jobs
Ponda: Yet another complaint has been filed against Deepashree Sawant, who was arrested earlier this week in connection with a cash-for-jobs scam. The complaint, lodged on Thursday by Sandeep Parab, a resident of Marcel, alleged that Sawant had duped 44 people — including Parab’s own daughter — of Rs 3.9 crore, on the pretext of offering them govt jobs.
Mardol police, however, are yet to register an FIR.
In his complaint, Parab said Sawant would visit a garments shop owned by his wife and that during one such visit, she told his wife that she could offer the couple’s daughter a govt job. Parab said he subsequently paid Sawant Rs 3 lakh for the purpose, following which she told him that he could recommend other aspirants too as there were some more jobs on offer. Parab told the police that he then informed some of his acquaintances of the ‘vacancies’, following which he received sums of money from them on behalf of Sawant. However, none received any job offers.
After Sawant’s arrest, the aspirants began hounding Parab to return their money, the latter stated in his complaint. Some even began threatening him, which prompted him to approach the police, he said.
Police said they would need statements of the 44 people who allegedly paid money to land govt jobs.
