National Games: Another silver for Babu and team in modern pentathlon

Panaji: Babu Arjun Gaonkar won his fourth silver medal at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand to take Goa’s tally to seven in modern pentathlon.
An international athlete who won Goa’s first gold medal when the National Games were held in Goa in 2023, Babu had picked up three silver medals on the opening day, finishing second best in the laser run individual men's category, laser run men's team event and laser run mixed relay.

On Tuesday, Babu added another silver as the tetrathlon men's team, also comprising Harichandra Shambu Velip and Suraj Nomee Velip, finished second behind Maharashtra. The winners were led by Mayank Chaphekar, India’s first-ever representative at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Haryana settled for the bronze medal.
Goa are placed 26th on the medal tally with 10 medals, which includes two gold, four silver and four bronze.
Services currently lead the standings with 97 medals which includes 54 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze. Maharashtra has 146 (41 gold, 52 silver, 53 bronze) and Karnataka 62 (31 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze) to complete the top three.
