The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted approval for GMC to increase its intake from 180 to 200 students. Bandekar said that to accommodate even more students, it is necessary to establish additional colleges in Goa. “Typically, colleges are limited to a maximum of 150 seats. But there was a one-time resolution that allowed GMC to apply for and secure additional seats. According to the NMC’s prevailing rules, more seats can’t be granted to GMC. If we have a new college, we will get at least 150 more seats,” he said.

Bandekar said admission for the additional 20 seats of the GMC’s first-year MBBS programme for the academic year 2024-25 began on Monday. “Of these 20 seats, 17 will be available to Goa students and three to students under the all-India quota,” he said.
