No sale, service of alcohol from 6am to 6pm on May 7
MARGAO: South Goa collector A Asvin Chandru on Thursday issued a prohibitory order stating that all hotels, restaurants, tea shops, pan shops, food joints, gaddas, etc situated in urban areas of municipal jurisdiction within 100m of polling stations will remain closed from 6am to 6pm on May 7.
Goa will see 11.8 lakh people voting on May 7. This year, female voters (6 lakh) outnumber males (5.7 lakh).
The order also states that the aforementioned shop categories in rural areas of village panchayat jurisdiction within 200m of the polling station will remain closed too.The collector has also banned any gathering of more than five persons within 200m of any polling stations (excluding voters queue at the polling station) in South Goa.
The restrictions shall not apply to public servants on duty and bona fide marriage or funeral processions or religious processions. Authorised officers on election duty by the district election officer, South Goa, or state govt, including polling of ficials, magistrates, police officials and govt staff are also exempt.
The collector has also banned the unlawful assembly and procession from 6pm on May 5 to 10pm on May 7 in all assembly constituencies to prevent any law and order issues. The order also states that no loudspeakers will be permitted to be used for elections.
All private vehicles will be checked in a dignified manner to avoid misuse for the distribution of money, gifts or liquor or for causing any nuisance or harassment to private persons.
No liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling or serving liquor will be permitted to sell or serve liquor during this period.
