Pack of stray dogs bites youth on Morjim beach

Panaji: A local youth from Morjim was attacked and bitten by a pack of stray dogs on Monday while walking along the beach. The man was reportedly going fishing when he came across the pack of dogs in front of a resort at Morjim’s Gaudewadda.

The Morjim youth, who was bitten on his left thigh, did not seek medical assistance from the Drishti lifeguards and chose to directly visit the local primary health centre.

Locals have blamed foreigners and shack operators for feeding the dogs on the beach, which makes the dogs territorial. Citizens have demanded that the tourism department and panchayat take immediate steps to curb the menace.

Several cases of beachgoers being bitten on Goa’s beaches have been reported across Goa’s coastal belt, with at least 22 cases being reported in 2024-25.

Calls have been made to local authorities and animal welfare bodies to implement sterilisation drives, improve monitoring and ensure public safety measures are in place.
