Ten days after 8 of the 15 councillors boycotted the monthly council meeting, nine members, including the deputy chairperson, served a notice of no-confidence against Naik.

In May 2018, Naik, who is supported by the MGP-led panel, was elected as chairperson while Vishwanath Dalvi, who belongs to the BJP-backed panel, was chosen as deputy chairperson through consensus among the groups, including the Congress-backed panel.

However, fissures appear to have now emerged following the ouster of Marcaim MLA Ramkrishna

Dhavalikar

from the state cabinet.

Eight council members, including four from the MGP-backed panel, had boycotted the meeting held on July 26. Former deputy chairperson Shantaram Kolvenkar said the councillors have accused Naik of neglecting their interests.
