, who passed away on Sunday.
People from all walks of life paid their
last respects
to the educationist at the G.S. Amonkar Vidya Mandir at Mapusa on Monday, including chief minister
Pramod Sawant, chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Ryan Braganza, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’souza and others.
Amonkar was a translator and served as chairman of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The Goa government awarded him the highest civilian award for his contribution to literature and education. “Suresh Amonkar contributed immensely in the field of education and literature. His work will remain an inspiration for the youth,” said chief minister Pramod Sawant.
“I partake in the grief along with all his family as I pay my condolences to his family and friends,” he added.
Speaking to reporters, councillor Sandeep Falari also spoke about Amonkar’s contribution to education in the state, and his work with religious texts. “We plan to propose the construction of a memorial to the government, and hope to begin construction soon,” said Falari.
