Stray dog bites patrolling beach marshal at Colva
Panaji: South Goa’s beaches are once again in the news for dog attacks, this time at Colva beach, where beach marshal Pratik Velip was bitten by a stray dog during patrol. Velip was shifted to a medical facility for treatment.
The Majorda-Benaulim belt witnessed several instances of tourists and lifeguards being attacked by dogs over the last one year.
Instances of voyeurism by domestic tourists continued, with a fresh case surfacing at Baga beach. Beach marshal Nilofer Usgaonkar noticed a Madhya Pradesh tourist photographing a foreign tourist without consent and intervened. Usgaonkar promptly alerted Goa police, who escorted the man to the beach tower.
Lifeguards also came across a 25-year-old woman from Bihar at Colva who expressed suicidal intent because of a reported argument with her husband. Though the woman was initially found crying near a jet ski on the beach, she disappeared from the area, prompting a dramatic search for her. Lifesavers alerted Goa police, and the woman was found in a nearby garden. The couple was taken to the police station.
At Morjim beach, lifesavers rescued a 40-year-old Bengaluru tourist who got stuck in deep water while swimming. The tourist was rescued using a rescue boat and jet ski. At Candolim beach, five lifesavers administered first aid to a Rajasthan tourist experiencing continuous vomiting and breathing difficulty. She was shifted to the North Goa District Hospital, where she is recovering.
