Vasco man accuses cops of brutality

VASCO: A caretaker of a restaurant in Vasco had approached the

Goa Human Rights Commission

seeking justice against the “barbarous and illegal manner” in which

Vasco police inspector Nilesh Rane

and his team tried to implicate him and his subordinate in a false narcotics case.


The rights panel has asked the South Goa superintendent of police (SP) to submit a report in the matter by May 15.

In his complaint, caretaker Agnelo Vaz, 28, stated that Rane,

police sub-inspector Daigo Gracias

and head constable Sachin Bandekar came to head office at 11pm on March 30 and assaulted him with a baseball bat and manhandled his subordinated Shiva Halwai.

Vaz said they were taken to the police station and abused and threatened at gunpoint.
