Water metro DPR to be prepared within two months

Panaji: Goa govt has intensified efforts to advance the proposed water metro project. According to the river navigation department (RND), Union govt has advised the state to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) immediately and submit it for consideration of financial assistance. In response, Goa govt has initiated the process of appointing Kochi Metro Rail Limited to prepare the DPR. The report is expected to be completed within the next two months.

“River navigation minister Subhash Phal Desai is following up the water metro project with the Centre for putting it on fast track,” said RND director, Vikram Raje Bhosale.

TOI had reported in Nov 2025 that Kochi Metro Rail Ltd began a detailed survey across 28 locations in Goa as part of a feasibility study for the proposed mass water transit system to assess potential routes and passenger demand for a future water taxi network across the state.

Following the feasibility study, the Kochi team identified eight feasible routes covering around 111km across Goa, including Panaji–Narve, Betim–Old Goa, Old Goa–Sarmanas, Vasco–Cortalim, Cortalim–Durbhat, Old Goa–Cumbarjua, Panaji–Dona Paula–Vasco and Panaji–Chapora. The ninth route, including a sea-route stretch from Chapora to Keri and Tiracol, is also under consideration.
