GURGAON: A 45-year-old retired Navy officer died on Wednesday after being accidentally stabbed in the chest by his wife, police said.
The deceased identified as Sunil Kumar, his wife Mamta.
Kumar, a resident of Nakhrola village, retired from the Indian Navy about five years ago and was working for a private company at the time of the incident. He lived with his wife and two sons.
The incident took place at their home on January 18, when Sunil Kumar, reportedly in an inebriated state, stumbled while walking towards the bathroom.
His wife, who was cutting vegetables and holding a knife, moved to steady him, but the knife accidentally pierced his chest, police said.
The family initially claimed that Kumar had suffered a heart attack, but a post-mortem examination revealed the fatal chest injury, SI Ranjit Singh said.
He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
An FIR under sections for culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against Mamta at Kherki Daula police station.
