I-T dept holds outreach on new tax law transition

Gurgaon: The income tax department organised an outreach programme in Gurgaon, “Prarambh 2026 – Bridging Borders, Building Trust,” with a focus on international taxation, transfer pricing and advance pricing agreements ahead of the rollout of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and Income-tax Rules, 2026.

Representatives of major multinational companies, chartered accountants and tax practitioners attended the session.

Anjula Jain, commissioner of income tax (international taxation)-2, New Delhi, said the programme provided an important platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing on India’s evolving tax framework.

Monica Bhatia, principal chief commissioner of income tax (international taxation), New Delhi, said close coordination between the department and stakeholders had helped ensure a smooth transition to the new law. She expressed confidence in the department’s readiness to address future challenges under the updated regime.

Bhatia highlighted the growing significance of cross-border transfer pricing, global cooperation and India’s expanding role in international taxation. She said Gurgaon had emerged as a key hub for international taxation, creating opportunities for capacity building and professional excellence. She also underlined the success of advance pricing agreements and the role of safe harbour provisions in providing certainty and easing compliance.

Raman Chopra, chief commissioner of income tax (international taxation), New Delhi, said the transition process had begun successfully and credited the Department’s proactive outreach and awareness efforts. He also referred to new initiatives such as the Kar Saathi platform and reiterated the Department’s commitment to trust-based tax administration.

Officials also gave a detailed presentation on key changes, structural reforms and procedural updates under the new law. Participants from industry bodies and consultancy firms welcomed the outreach initiative.
