Gurgaon: A team from Rashtrapati Bhawan visited five villages - four from Gurgaon and one from Mewat - which have been adopted by the President, on on Tuesday. The President will launch a programme from Rashtrapti Bhawan on July 2 to develop these villages into 'smart villages'.

The team visited Alipur, Daula, Harchandpur and Tajnagar in Gurgaon and Rozka Meo in Mewat and interacted with villagers to understand the infrastructure and facilities available in areas like agriculture, power supply, health centre, education.

Following the field visit, the team meet with deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash, along with office heads of agriculture, power utilities, public health engineering, health, education and other aligned departments.

Director of Rashtrapati Bhawan Secretariat N K Sudhanshu, who was a part of the team, said a delegation of villagers from these five villages and concerned officers will be invited in this function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Delhi. He said other villagers would be able to see the proceedings of the function on LED screen in their village itself. President Pranab Mukherjee will interact with the villagers and students in their respective village through webcast.

He said a Gram Sabha meeting will be organized on July 3 and 4 to discuss a range of issues with the villagers. After these meetings, a five-day training course for on general issues like agriculture, irrigation, sanitation etc would be organized in each of these villages.

For the record, a survey of present infrastructure and facilities available in these villages will also be done. On the basis of the survey, a 'village development plan' will be prepared in consultation with villagers. Focus will be on providing adequate electricity supply, drinking water supply, health and sanitation facilities in these villages.

These facilities would be made available in adopted villages through convergence method, that is, by roping in schemes of centre and state government, utilizing CSR of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Private Institutions, researches conducted by universities and the like. "If we work together with the cooperation of villagers, majority of the problems in villages can be solved," said Sudhanshu.

Deputy Commissioner T L Satyaprakash will be program leader for implementation of the scheme and ADC Vinay Pratap Singh would serve as co-ordinator at the ground level.

The team that visited the five villages comprised director of Rashtrapati Bhawan Secretariat N K Sudhanshu, OSD to President Abhijeet Rai, representative of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Krishan Gaur and NIC Delhi S D Sharma.
