Use inert waste produced at Bandhwari, MCG tells agencies
Officials said the utilisation of inert and compost can be done to level the low-lying areas, which the agencies deployed at the landfill have been doing. However, the corporation has to expedite the pace of legacy waste processing, which also implies ensuring effective disposal of inert and compost.
“We have written to multiple govt agencies, including NHAI, HSIIDC, HRIDC, mining officer of the industrial area and divisional forest officer of Gurgaon to utilise compost and inert waste. Samples of these materials have been tested and no harmful ingredients were found in it, making it fit for embankment and filling in low-lying areas,” an MCG official said. The corporation has also noted that the cost of transportation, loading and unloading of these materials will be borne by MCG. “The segregated bio-soil and inert material may be used as soil enricher and for filling in the embankment of road, roadside berms, center verge and low lying areas. Further, it is also submitted that samples of the said material have also been checked by ICAR-Indian Agriculture Research Institute,” read the letter recently sent by MCG to these agencies.
In a meeting chaired by MCG commissioner Narhari Singh Banger on March 13, the commissioner had asked HSIIDC officials to consider utilisation of inert and compost in their projects in Sohna, Manesar, Faridabad and Kharkhoda. It was also discussed in the meeting that 15 acres of HSIIDC land near Panchgaon chowk in Manesar should be allocated for storage of inert and compost.
