Upasna was a housewife and her niece Sneha was a high school student from Jawahar Colony, police said. They were accompanied by Upasna's mother-in-law Rajkumari and her two children and were about to board a train to Delhi around 11.30 am.

"The family was planning to visit Bangla Sahib Gurudwara in Delhi. As Upasna and Sneha were returning to their platform after purchasing tickets, they spotted Rajkumari stumbling while trying to cross the tracks to the platform where the Delhi-bound train was to arrive. The victims were able to help her to safety but unfortunately came under the train," said ASI Sudhesh Kumari.

According to Upasna's mother Meena, her son-in-law Gulshan runs a machine tools workshop from his house in Jawahar Colony. "Gulshan and Upasna have two school-going children, an eight-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy. Our family is in shock," she said.

"We have initiated inquest proceedings under BNS Section 194," the ASI said.
