Assam Police apprehend PLA cadre from Guwahati hotel

Guwahati: An active member of Manipur's banned insurgent outfit, the People's Liberation Army (PLA), involved in terror activities in the neighbouring state, was apprehended by Assam Police from a hotel in Guwahati, police said on Sunday.The cadre, identified as Mayanglambam Bobby Singh (31), hailing from Kakching in Thoubal district in Manipur, was apprehended by the police from the Paltan Bazar area in the city on Saturday. DCP (East Guwahati) Mrinal Deka said Singh was apprehended based on inputs received from the Indian Army intelligence."He was residing in the Beharbari area of the city for some time. Acting on the inputs, we followed his movement and caught him from the Paltan Bazar area," he said, adding that the police seized a few electronic devices, including mobile phones and incriminating documents, from him. However, police did not find any arms or ammunition in his possession.The DCP said the cadre was involved in various terror activities in Manipur, and Manipur Police will take him into their custody. He further said the objective behind him taking shelter in Guwahati would become clear during interrogation.In Feb, the police nabbed one Yaikhom Tandaba Singh, a cadre of the same outfit, from Murazar in Assam's Hojai district. According to the police, Singh was involved in arms dealing and drug trafficking and was working to establish a fresh arms-smuggling network in the region.Meanwhile, security forces in Manipur have intensified their crackdown on militant outfits. In the past 48 hours, a joint team of state and central forces arrested 10 militants affiliated with eight different banned groups in a series of operations across the valley districts. The raids led to the recovery of weapons, military gear, mobile phones and cash.
