Chopper services between Manipur & Mizoram resume
AIZAWL: After initial hiccups, helicopter flights between Churachandpur in Manipur and Aizawl have officially resumed with a chopper from Churachandpur landing at Mualpui helipad on the southern outskirts of the city at 1.30 pm on Friday, state civil aviation officials said. The Manipur govt had withdrawn the service on June 27.
The officials said 11 flyers flew here from Churachandpur, while nine left Aizawl for Churachandpur on Friday. During its return journey to Churachandpur, the helicopter made a stopover at the lone Lengpui airport near Aizawl for refuelling.
The helicopter services between the two sister states could not resume on Monday, as planned, owing to the alleged delay by Manipur govt in intimating Mizoram govt about it.
An official of the state civil aviation wing here said they received the official intimation from Manipur's transport department only last Sunday and there was no time for prospective passengers to book their tickets. "We have tickets but there is still no facility for booking them online," the official had said.
However, the Manipur govt said its transport department had issued a press release on the matter on July 10. According to the press release issued by Manipur, there will be two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays. It has been named as the Churachandpur-Mualpui (Aizawl)-Lengpui-Churachandpur flight.
