police district have been prohibited under section 144 CrPC,1973.
Hemanta Kumar Das, deputy commissioner of police (admin), Guwahati, said, “I have come to know that some vendors are causing inconvenience to pedestrians/commuters by putting up stalls or running businesses of perishable and nonperishable goods by encroaching upon roads and footpaths in a few areas in the Guwahati East police district.”
“It has also been brought to my notice that because of encroachment, snatching incidents are on the rise,” he added.
Street vending has been prohibited in the area from Bhangagarh flyover to

Roopnagar Rotary

and from Six Mile flyover to

Panjabari

.
He added that it was necessary to take preventive measures to ensure free and smooth movement of public and traffic and allow legitimate business establishments to function in the areas and therefore, the prohibitory order has been clamped.
Any person aggrieved with the order may file his or her written objection, if any, before the DCP (admin), Guwahati for cancellation/modification of the order.
Meanwhile, residents have urged enforcement of similar orders in other parts of the city as it has become increasingly difficult to walk on pavements because of encroachment.
