AIZAWL: Mizoram's People's Conference on Wednesday called for unified opposition to the proposed legislation on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and BJP.

Party's emeritus president Lalhmangaiha Sailo said the legislation of UCC would mean all the Indian citizens, irrespective of culture, tradition and religion shall follow the Hindu way of life.

Former state chief minister Brig. T Sailo's son said they have been making plans to launch a protest against the UCC as it would surely harm Christians and other religious minority communities in the country.

"We have to take concrete steps to ensure that Mizo culture, tradition and religious practices are safe," he said.

Vanlalruata also invited all the political parties in the state to form an anti-BJP alliance, saying the party has chalked out proposals for the alliance.

"What has been happening in neighbouring Manipur clearly indicated the danger of the saffron party retaining power with its allies," Vanlalruata said, adding that the people of Mizoram should unite to prevent BJP coming to power in the state and also to bring down the saffron party at the Centre.
